FSCC Individual Counseling

As we go through the highs and lows of each day, we are able to manage our emotional health through a variety of personal coping mechanisms. We are able to talk through these stressful moments with family or friends and move forward. However, there are times when the challenges, or crises, we face are more daunting, and we may require additional help and professional guidance.

At Family Service Counseling and Community Resource Center (FSCC), we offer individual counseling to help the individual get through these tough times.

Who Can Benefit from Counseling?

Anyone can benefit from counseling regardless of the size of the issue.

When to Seek Counseling?

Our caring and experienced counselors are trained to intervene or provide support for a number of life’s issues. Here are some symptoms for which you may consider personal counseling:

  • Increased tardiness, absence, or poor work performance
  • Significant increase or decrease in mood level that lasts more than a week
  • Trouble sleeping or oversleeping
  • Loss of appetite or overeating
  • Headaches
  • Fatigue

Next Steps

To get to know you and determine your needs, you will be asked to complete paperwork at your initial contact with FSCC. During your first one-on-one meeting, the counselor will assess your needs. He or she will make a treatment plan based on their professional opinion and in collaboration with you.

If you require counseling at FSCC, you and your counselor will work together to decide how frequently and for how long a period it is necessary to meet. This decision is made on a case-by-case basis and is determined by the appropriateness of time-limited treatment for your individual situation, our expertise in treating your particular problem, the availability of staff and other resources, and other factors.

For more information, please contact FSCC at (510) 483-6715.

FSCC Couples & Family

Couples Counseling

Most couples want their partnership or marriage to work but do not always have the necessary tools to maintain a good, healthy relationship. Researchers agree that successful relationships are hard work, and they must be developed and nurtured. There is a basic consensus among family experts that make up the key ingredients of a healthy and fulfilling relationship:

  • Commitment
  • Mutual Respect and Appreciation
  • Communication
  • Compromise
  • Feeling Comfortable with Yourself

If you are feeling that your partnership or marriage is facing some difficult challenges, the following quick relationship inventory may help you identify the problem areas:

  • Are you giving your relationship top priority in your life?
  • Can you talk to your partner about things that are troubling you?
  • Are you and your partner affectionate and expressive with each other?
  • Do you have “quality” time to spend with your partner?

When Professional Counseling Is Needed

A couple can fix some relationship problems by talking it out and together coming up with a plan of action. However, problems that require professional help include:

  • Quarreling and Tension without Resolution
  • Sense of Prolonged Distance
  • Indifference in the Relationship
  • Lack of Communication
  • Physical Fighting
  • Extramarital Affairs

If any of these problems exist in your relationship, or if you are troubled about your marriage but are unable to identify the source, a professional counselor can help. For more information, please contact FSCC at (510) 483-6715.

Family Counseling

Families of today face many challenges. Sometimes the family is able to resolve these problems themselves; other times they may need outside counseling help.

Here are some signals to look for that may indicate that your child or family needs help:

  • Change in sleeping or eating patterns
  • Excessive outbursts of anger
  • Extreme rebelliousness
  • Physical complaints with no discernable cause
  • Withdrawn behavior in a previously outgoing child
  • Behavior that appears self-destructive
  • Fearfulness
  • Isolation from a peer group
  • Inability to concentrate

If these symptoms continue over a period of time, you may wish to contact a professional counselor at FSCC at (510) 483-6715.

If you are in crisis and need assistance immediately, please call 911 or Alameda County Crisis Hotline at (800) 309-2131.

FSCC Group Counseling

Group counseling is a form of psychotherapy in which several individuals meet with one or more therapists. These members form a support group where they can learn from the experiences of others and offer advice.

Individuals experiencing a mental health challenge or problem behavior can feel isolated, and group counseling can help the individual by providing peers who are experiencing the same challenges or who have recovered from these challenges.
